DeFuniak Springs Airport Prepares for 7th Annual Marvel of Flight Event - March 31 & April 1, 2017

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL -The 7th annual Marvel of Flight at the DeFuniak Springs Airport to be held March 31 & April 1, 2017, will be the largest fly-in and aviation expo in Northwest Florida, and the City of DeFuniak Springs is promising to deliver the best line up of special guest speakers, exhibits, and aircraft static displays to-date.

The event is open to the public and en lieu of admission fees, the City of DeFuniak Springs is requesting everyone bring a food pantry donation to benefit the Matrix Community Outreach Center local food bank program.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for the City of DeFuniak Springs to welcome pilots and aviation enthusiast from all over the Southeast region of the United States and show them not only what our airport has to offer, but also promote Walton County as a whole,” said Ryan Adams, event coordinator and Airport Director.  Adams went on to say that the airport is expecting numerous historic military aircraft displays, educational exhibits geared towards promoting STEM concepts and aviation, live entertainment, a car show, free kids’ activities, food vendors, general aviation classroom seminars, and much more.

Headlining the event as honorary guest and hosting a series of advanced flight training forums is three-time National Aerobatic Champion and National Aviation Hall of Fame member Patty Wagstaff.  Other special guests include the Tiger Flight Foundation formation flight demonstration team, Army Aviation Heritage Foundation Wiregrass Chapter, and Hixson Flight Museum.

The fun filled day of activities will include a “Rescue at Dawn” historical re-enactment presented by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation Wiregrass Chapter involving three Vietnam War Era historical aircraft.

The event is an opportunity for the citizens of Walton County and surrounding areas to learn more about opportunities in general aviation and to see firsthand the significant role the airport plays in our local economy.  “A lot of people are surprised when they learn about our airport’s existing capabilities.  We have a solid plan in place that will position us where we need to be over the next 5 years to meet the growing demands for aeronautical related services here in Walton County” said Adams.

Officials are anticipating crowds of over 5000 and more than 100 different aircraft flying into the event from as far away as Texas and South Florida.

The City of DeFuniak Springs would like to thank Wind Creek Hospitality, Walmart of DeFuniak Springs, and all the many other sponsors who support Marvel of Flight.
