REGINALD LAWRENCE DELEGOL Committal Service

Saturday, February 25, 2023

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Reginald Lawrence Delegol was granted safe passage from the troubles of this world.

Born on Valentine’s Day in 1955 in Pensacola, FL, he attended Tivoli and Walton High school, graduating in 1973. He served in the Navy and received an honorable discharge. He was raised on Sloss Avenue and was also known as “Suzzy.”

Reggie started writing songs in the 3rd grade. In the sixth grade, the band “Ruff Riders” was formed, consisting of Reggie, Joel R, Virgil B, Virgil M, Rochelle C, and Allen S. They performed in a talent show at Tivoli high school, playing three songs that Reggie wrote. The stage was rushed by all the older pretty girls. They became famous within an instant. Their most popular songs that they performed were “Rolling on the River'' and “The Horse.” He also loved dancing. He was even known to be a stylish dresser. He was the class clown and had a great sense of humor.

His passion was music and he always wanted to sing when he met people. His favorite sayings were “I write hits” and “I’m going to be a trillionaire.” He wrote songs such as “You Are My Hiding Place,” “Where You Are, There I Am,” and his songs “Jesus, You Are Love” and “Now Tell Me, Who Do You Know?” can be found on YouTube. His songs were even registered with a copyright under the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

He was preceded in death by his mother Billie Jean Russ Delegol, father John Howard Delegol, and biological father Hughey Emerson Kelker, Sr.

Survivors: Sister Sandra Faye Macon Delegol, Niece Dr. Erica Ryan Macon, Nephew Jason Delegol Macon, Great-nephews Thomas C. Jones, III and Nathan Xavier Smith, and Great-niece Aajai Jean Macon.

Great-Aunt Edna Edwards, Aunt Louise Kelker, Harold Kelker, Jr., Maria Kelker Mickens (Ronald), Cousins Kenneth M. Delegol (Denise), Gregory B. Delegol (Cecelia), Angela Delegol Graham (Wayne), Donna Kelker Jones, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends – special friend Richard Hogans, Sr. and Sloss Ave. families.

There will be a visitation for Reginald on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM with a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM, all at Evans-McDonald Funeral Home.  Graveside service will be at Magnolia Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs.
