[ARCHIVED] STOLEN VEHICLE CHASE RESULTS IN CRASH

Officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to the Regency Inn in reference to a sighting of a stolen vehicle Thursday at approximately 6:30 PM. Officers arrived and spotted the vehicle on U.S. Highway 331 South. A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver refused to stop and increased his speed to over 80 MPH. Officers gave chase and followed vehicle to the intersection of U.S. Highway 90. The driver crashed the vehicle into a tree at Wayside Park near the intersection and then took off on foot. Officers began a foot pursuit and caught the suspect, 19 year old Shaun Tiyahri Key of DeFuniak Springs, in the woods nearby. A small amount of Marijuana, Cocaine, and Heroine were located inside the vehicle. Key was transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was being released as of this press release and will be taken to the Walton County Jail. Key faces charges of Grand Theft, Possession of Controlled Substances, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, and Driving While License Revoked. Fortunately no other vehicles or persons were involved.
