[ARCHIVED] WRONG TAG LEADS TO DRUG ARREST AT CHILDREN’S PARK

A truck with an obscured tag caught the attention of an Officer with the DeFuniak Springs Police on Thursday. The Officer was on routine patrol near Wee Care Park around 6 PM when the vehicle was observed. A check of the tag revealed that it belonged on a trailer and not the truck. The Officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver drove to the rear of the Park before coming to a stop. The driver, 53 year old Randall Earl Ward of DeFuniak Springs, exited the vehicle and tried to walk away. The Officer requested to speak with him and Ward advised that he had a suspended license. Ward was placed under arrest and a small amount of Marijuana was located in a beef jerky can in his pocket.

A check of the passengers revealed 21 year old Kelsey Bowers to have Marijuana in her purse. Bowers was arrested on Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia. Ward was charged with Driving While License Suspended and Possession of Marijuana. Both were transported and booked into the Walton County Jail.
