[ARCHIVED] PEDESTRIAN DIES AS A RESULT OF BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLE

DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a traffic crash early Wednesday night involving a pedestrian.  28 year old John Adam King was struck while walking on the north side of Bruce Avenue near 13th Street by a vehicle driven by Eloise Floyd Currie.  Currie reportedly was driving west on Bruce Avenue and did not see King, who was walking in the roadway.  A friend of King was walking on the shoulder near him.  Currie’s right fender struck King from behind, which caused him to be thrown onto the hood of the vehicle.  King sustained head injuries from the crash.  King’s friend began CPR until Officers arrived and took over.  Officers also used an AED.  DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Walton Fire Rescue arrived and took over treatment of King.  He was transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center where he was stabilized.  King was later transported to Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery.  He passed away early Thursday morning. Currie was not injured in the crash.  The investigation is continuing, but the initial investigation did not indicate fault on the part of the driver.  Deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office assisted in traffic control. #fatalcrash #accident #cpr #pedestrian
