An investigation that was started after complaints of drug activity has ended with the arrest of three suspects. DeFuniak Springs Police Narcotics Detectives received information that individuals were using and possibly selling drugs at 269 N. 11th Street in DeFuniak Springs. Detectives were able to secure a search warrant for the premises after probable cause developed that drugs were located inside the residence. Detectives and Officers executed the search warrant Tuesday morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. Five occupants were located inside and were immediately detained. A search of the residence by Detectives revealed numerous items of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, non-narcotic prescription drugs, and a small amount of marijuana. 51 year old Bookertee Hartfield, Jr., 39 year old Devon Bray, and 29 year old Ashley Simmons were arrested and charged with drug related offenses. All three were transported to the Walton County Jail. Chief Mark Weeks stated “I have directed my Narcotics Detectives to find these drug houses and shut them down. This is a start, but there are more locations we are aware of.” Hartsfield is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Legend Drugs without a Prescription, Possession of Less than 20 grams of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Simmons and Bray were both charged with Possession of Controlled Substance without a Prescription and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. As of this release, the suspects are still in custody and awaiting first appearance.
