Detectives with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department
traveled to Orlando on Tuesday to deliver a trailer full of surplus items forfinal delivery to Puerto Rico. “With the
recent devastation that Puerto Rico has faced, I wanted to team up with OrlandoPolice Department., who volunteered to ship the items, in order to aid their
law enforcement agencies. We hadnumerous items that we could no longer use and that would obtain a minimal
return if sold. To an agency in need, the equipment is invaluable,” said Chief Mark Weeks. Upon arrival at Orlando P.D., Detectives were
met by Orlando personnel who assisted in unloading the surplus items. Once all the items are collected from variousother agencies, Orlando P.D. will ship them in a cargo container to Puerto
Rico. Deputy Chief Orlando Rolon withOrlando Police Department initiated the effort after Hurricane Maria ravaged
Puerto Rico. So much of the landscapeand vital equipment was destroyed that Deputy Chief Rolon wanted to coordinate
an effort to help the U.S. Territory revive. “It’s good to know that fellow law enforcement agencies will help each
other out when disaster strikes,” said Chief Weeks.
