[ARCHIVED] Fight Over Damaged Tires Leads to Serious Injuries and Arrest

Officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a fight that turned more serious on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at approximately 10 AM. A white male was reportedly in need of medical attention as the result of the fight that occurred at Southern Springs Apartments. Officers arrived to find the victim with injuries to his head, but who was conscious and talking.

Officers were approached at the scene by a black male who advised that he had struck the victim. 30 year old Richard Anthony Hogans, of DeFuniak Springs, was arrested and transported to the Walton County Department of Corrections. Investigation revealed that Hogans had damaged the tires of the victim before the fight began.

DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Walton Fire Rescue arrived to assess the medical needs of the victim and transported him to North Okaloosa Medical Center. His condition was considered life threatening and he was then flown by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. The victim was listed in stable condition at the time of this release.

Hogans is being charged with Aggravated Battery by Causing Great Bodily Harm and Felony Criminal Mischief. Hogans is currently awaiting First Appearance. The investigation is continuing.
