[ARCHIVED] AFTERNOON COLLISION SENDS 3 TO HOSPITAL AND TEMPORARILY BLOCKS TRAFFIC

SUV

DeFuniak Springs Police responded to a serious traffic crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 331 S. and the entrance to Walton Plaza. A 2013 gray Chevrolet sedan, being driven by 26 year old Christopher Wilczewksi of Westville, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 331 S. when an SUV turned left in front of him. The impact turned the 2011 silver Chevrolet SUV completely around and entrapped the occupants. The SUV was being operated by 75 year old Betty Hardy of Freeport. DeFuniak Springs Fire Department responded, along with Walton Fire Rescue and the roadway was partially blocked while emergency crews freed the occupants. All three occupants of the SUV were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast with visible injuries. According to a witness, both drivers were facing solid green lights at the time of the crash. Hardy was found to be at fault in the crash and was issued a traffic citation for Failure to Yield Right Away upon Turning Left. Wilczewksi reported that he was not injured in the crash. “We are thankful for the quick response of our First Responders and wish the ladies that were injured a speedy recovery,” said Chief Mark Weeks.
