[ARCHIVED] SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY CALL LEADS TO FIGHT AND ARREST FOR METHAMPHETAMINE

Drugs

DeFuniak Springs Police responded to the area of Bruce Avenue and Captain Street Wednesday around noon for a report of suspicious activity. A caller reported seeing two men possibly involved in a drug transaction. Officers were able to locate one of the men and were in the process of identifying the white male when he bolted from an Officer. A foot pursuit ensued and the Officer was able to catch up to the suspect, who became combative. At one point, the suspect grabbed for the Officer’s gun. The suspect was subdued after a Taser was deployed. A search of the suspect revealed approximately one gram of crystal methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle and syringe. 26 year old Shannon Ray Johnson, Jr. was arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail on multiple charges including Resisting Arrest with Violence, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Paraphernalia. “Our partnership with our community is what brought this drug user to justice,” said Chief James Hurley. “My Officers are committed more than ever to combatting controlled substances in this great City.”
