A DeFuniak Springs man is behind bars tonight after he reportedly burned multiple items he had given his live-in girlfriend, almost burning the house down. DeFuniak Springs Police were called to the residence early Monday morning for a report of a fire that the suspect had started inside the home. The suspect was able to get the flames extinguished, but not before damaging many items that belonged to his girlfriend. The two had apparently had an argument over the future of their relationship and this enraged 23 year old Hunter Garner. Garner had left the residence before Officers arrived. He was located walking in the area later Monday afternoon. A short foot pursuit ended with Garner being arrested and charged with criminal mischief and arson. Garner was booked into the Walton County Jail, where he is awaiting First Appearance. “Thankfully no one was injured in his bit of fiery rage,” said Chief James Hurley. “We were looking for him most of the day and stopped him before he could return to potentially do more damage.”
