On June 28th, 2011 early evening bad weather struck the City of DeFuniak Springs with little warning for preparation.
Officers from the DeFuniak Springs Police responded quickly as possible to many sites including: a motorist with power lines draped across the vehicle in the area of U.S. Highway 90 and 11th, Street. Officers directed the motorist to stay in the vehicle and immediately contacted Gulf Power for assistance. Shortly after their arrival confirmation was obtained that the lines were deactivated, at which time the motorist was safely removed.
The other confirmed locations at the time of this release was an overturned Mobile Home at Celebrity Homes located off of Baldwin Avenue and South 20th, Street and 367 West Live Oak Avenue were a tree fell into the home.
Officers and city workers also manned / attended the intersections that are controlled by traffic lights that were affected by the bad weather until they could be repaired back to their normal operation.
With the assistance from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, DeFuniak Springs City Public Works, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and the local Utility Companies, damages were assessed and the search for any possible injuries was quickly completed.
Fortunately there were no reported injuries. The DeFuniak Springs Police would like to thank all personal for their quick response with little or no warning.
