[ARCHIVED] STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED IN TWO SEPARATE DEFUNIAK SPRINGS BURGLARIES

The DeFuniak Springs Police has recovered stolen property that was taken during two separate burglaries that occurred between November 20th and November 28th in DeFuniak Springs.
The first burglary occurred at the Walton Academy School on November 20th when an unknown suspect broke into the school and removed a television and video projector. The suspect was photographed by a school district video surveillance system during the burglary and an investigation by DeFuniak Springs Police identified the suspect as Byron Deon Porter 09/28/1986. Porter has been charged with Burglary to an Unoccupied Dwelling and Grand Theft. He is in the Walton County Jail, already booked on an outstanding arrest warrant for an unrelated charge.
The second burglary occurred at 85 Crescent Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, on November 28th. The resident returned home to find the home burglarized with numerous items of electronics missing. The DeFuniak Springs Police conducted an investigation in conjunction with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the State Department of Corrections / Office of Probation and Parole. The investigation lead to a South Walton Apartment Complex where several subjects were located and interviewed. Many of the stolen items were located and recovered from inside the apartment. The investigation is on-going and an arrest is pending.
The DeFuniak Springs Police wants to remind residents and businesses to lock doors to buildings and vehicles, report suspicious activities (during and after hours) and to document all valuables by recording serial numbers and taking photographs.
