The City of DeFuniak Springs is proud to announce their third annual fly-in/aviation festival, “Marvel of Flight” on Saturday, April 27, 2013, 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport on Hwy 90 West.
Marvel of Flight was created as the 2010/2011 class project of Leadership Walton, a program of the Walton Area Chamber. The class was challenged with bringing alternate forms of tourism throughout the county, while promoting economic development.
“The City of DeFuniak Springs is honored to host the 3rd annual Marvel of Flight celebration at our municipal airport where customer service and economic growth go hand in hand,” City Manager Sara Bowers stated.
The array of events include: aircraft judging, vintage bi-plane and helicopter rides, pilot seminars, live entertainment, arts & crafts, free kids activities, door prizes, car show, model rockets, RC planes, great food, and much more! This is an alcohol-free day of “hometown” fun for the entire family! The admission fee is one canned food item to benefit the Matrix Community Outreach Center.
"After the overwhelming response to Marvel of Flight 2012 from both area residents and the regional general aviation community, we knew that this event had unlimited potential for future growth,” stated Ryan Adams, Airport Services Supervisor for the City of DeFuniak Springs. “This year we will be hosting aircraft, exhibits, and vendors from all across the country. It is truly an honor to be partnering with some of the most highly revered names in aviation such as; NASA Kennedy Space Center, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide, International Women’s Museum of Air and Space, Teledyne Continental Motors, and Experimental Aviation Association. With the help of numerous volunteers from a multitude of local agencies and civic organizations, Marvel of Flight has grown into the largest Fly-In of Northwest Florida. "
Marvel of Flight is a brought to you by the City of DeFuniak Springs. Community Partners include the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce, DeFuniak Springs Police, Walton County Sheriff’s Office, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Walton County Fire Department, Kiwanis Club, Experimental Aviation Association (EAA), Civil Air Patrol, Boy Scouts of America, DeFuniak Business Partnership Association (DBPA), and many others. The Walton High School AFJROTC will present colors at the opening ceremonies.
