In an effort to save lives in DeFuniak Springs Florida, DeFuniak Springs Police has once again joined forces with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and law enforcement leaders across the State of Florida to conduct a special high-visibility Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign.
The Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign will buckle down on all motorists not buckling up. The National Click It or Ticket Campaign runs from May 20 thru June 2, 2013. The National campaign started in 1993 and is the most successful seat belt enforcement campaign ever, helping to increase the national seat belt usage rate. Seat belt use in 2012 reached 86 percent, a significant increase from 84 percent in 2011. The message is simple - Coast to coast, day or night Click It or Ticket.
“Seat belts clearly save lives, however too many drivers in Florida and particularly those in our city, still need reminding. It is unfortunate that sometimes it is necessary for our Police Officers to issue a citation to convince drivers that regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect our citizens and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes” said Chief Mark A. Weeks.
