At approximately 3 PM today, a 14 year old girl was assaulted while walking home from school on Hubbard Street near Scribner in DeFuniak Springs. The victim described the suspect as a black male, possibly in his 30’s, wearing a dark green shirt and cream or white baggy shorts. The victim said the suspect is approximately 5’11” and has a slender build with low cut hair. The suspect reportedly began walking in front and telling her he needed to show her something. When she refused the suspect grabbed her shirt and ripped it. He then tried removing other clothing, including his own. The victim was able to kick the suspect and run away. A resident in the area contacted DeFuniak Springs Police and reported a female that looked in distress. Officers arrived and were advised by the victim of the assault.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in the investigation and search. The Walton Correctional Institute brought in its K-9’s also to assist in searching for the suspect, who is still at large.
The victim said during the altercation, a large white sedan with a female driver passed by and possibly witnessed the incident.
